Here are some DIY steps showing you how to fix a touch button power recliner. Watch the video and see how easy it is to repair, if you know what to look for.
How To Fix A Touch Button Power Recliner
The video was produced by Best Home Furnishings in the US but is still a great example for us in Australia.
Ensure You Have Power & Check Connections
Begin by ensuring that you have power to the power point. If you have power, disconnect your power cord from the power point and check all connection points, unplug and plug back in all connection points, specifically the DIN plug.
Ensure you disconnect and reconnect your touch wire and touch junction, make sure that there are no wires caught in any moving parts, plug the power cord back into the outlet, place your chair in the upright position and test for power.
For touch models only, leave the unit plugged into the power source. Place the chair on its side. Unplug the DIN plug. This will reset the touch buttons. Wait 10 to 20 seconds. Plug the DIN plug back in, place the chair in the upright position and test for power.
Replacing Your Touch Junction (Switch Control)
Be sure to disconnect the power source before replacing any components. Place your chair on its side, snip the zip ties that hold the touch junction (switch control) in place and disconnect from the touch wire. Remove the DIN plug from the motor. This has disconnected your touch junction from the chair.
You will now replace the touch junction with one you have purchased. Plug the DIN plug in, attach the excess cord to the back rail using a zip tie, you may like to cut the excess zip tie. Using two additional zip ties, you will hold the junction in place on the back rail.
You will then connect your touch wire and touch junction. Place your chair in the upright position, plug it back into your power source, and test your chair for power. You have successfully replaced your touch junction.
Replacing Your Transformer Plug
Disconnect the power source from the wall. Flip your chair on its side, disconnect the cord from the motor, replace with a new transformer plug you have purchased, plug into the same cord attached to the motor, plug back into your power source, place your chair in the upright position, test your chair for power. You have successfully replaced your transformer plug. See replacement recliner electrical parts.
Replacing Your Power Motor (Actuator)
Disconnect your power source, place your chair on its side, unplug the power cord, unplug your DIN plug from the side of the motor, remove the clevis and rue and remove the power motor.
Re-install the power motor using the clevis and rue to attach to the mounting bracket. Be sure not to tangle any wires within the motor and mounting brackets. Again, use your clevis and rue to attach the motor to the mounting bracket.
Plug in your DIN plug, reconnect your power cord, plug into your power source, place your chair in the upright position. Test for power. You have successfully replaced your power motor. See replacement recliner actuators.
