Remove The Mounting Screws
When replacing the recliner handle or complete assembly including the cable, there will be mounting screws, most commonly one down the bottom and one at the top. Remove the mounting screws and the handle should pop out like so.
Remove The Handle’s Holding Clip
If you’re just changing the handle (and not the cable as well), you first need to remove holding clip. There are different types, but they all basically work the same way. Just squeeze the clip ends together to remove the clip and then put it somewhere safe for when you reassemble.
Separate The Handle From The Cable
Turn the recliner handle over to see where the cable is held in the handle and the barrel fits into its little mounting point. Lift the cable straight up and out to separate the handle from the cable.
Attach New Replacement Handle To The Cable
Now you fit the new handle in the same way as you just removed the old handle.
Place the cable head in the mounting point, lay it down and click it into place. After that, put the holding clip back on. One side first, then click to the other side.
Fit New Handle To The Recliner
Next, you simply pop the flapper style handle back into the recliner and do up the mounting screws.
If Replacing A Recliner Handle And Cable
If you need to change both the handle and cable together, simply remove the mounting screws, to release the handle.
Tip the recliner on it’s back to see the mechanism underneath and where the cable comes down to the trigger point. Release the cable from that trigger point and pull cable out with the old handle. Then reverse the process to fit your new flapper style handle and cable.
